Security agencies, including the military, Department of State Services (DSS), police and other security formations, have rescued 20 kidnapped prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and another hostage in Imo State.
The victims were freed during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by the security agencies in the South-East state.
The rescue operation involved coordinated efforts by the military, DSS, police and other security formations working to locate and free the abducted victims.
Following their rescue, the 21 victims are currently receiving medical attention at a DSS facility, where their conditions are being monitored.
The successful operation comes amid continued security concerns over kidnapping and other criminal activities in parts of the South-East and other regions of Nigeria.
The rescued prospective NYSC members had been abducted while travelling in connection with their mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps programme.
Security agencies have continued to rely on intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation in efforts to tackle kidnapping, protect vulnerable citizens and secure major transportation routes.
The latest rescue also highlights the role of coordinated security operations in responding to abductions and locating victims.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the abduction, the rescue operation and whether any suspects were arrested as investigations continue.
The rescued victims are expected to remain under medical observation as security agencies continue their assessment following the operation.
More details on the identities of the victims, the location of the rescue and the circumstances of their abduction are expected to be released by the relevant authorities.
