Troops of the 109 Special Forces Battalion, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected high-profile terrorist in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Madumaki Modugai, was arrested at about 10:45 p.m. on October 5, 2026, in Magumeri town following an intelligence-led operation.
According to security sources, Modugai had allegedly entered the town, causing concern among residents who became apprehensive after noticing his presence.
His arrest reportedly helped to ease tensions and restore confidence among residents of the community.
Suspect Allegedly Operated Around Lake Chad Region
Preliminary interrogation indicated that Modugai had allegedly been operating around the fringes of the Lake Chad region and Niger Republic.
Residents and local vigilantes also reportedly told security personnel that the suspect had allegedly been involved in terrorist-related activities for about four years.
The allegations are still subject to investigation, and the suspect remains in military custody.
Security Agencies Investigate Suspected Terror Links
Security authorities are expected to further interrogate Modugai as investigations continue into his activities, movements and possible links to terrorist networks operating around the Lake Chad Basin.
The operation highlights continued security efforts in Borno State, where military personnel and local security groups have continued to conduct intelligence-led operations against suspected terrorist activities.
The military has not indicated whether the suspect’s alleged affiliation with any specific terrorist organisation has been conclusively established.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
