Former Kano State Governor and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has paid a courtesy visit to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at his residence in Abuja.
Ganduje’s visit was captured in a video shared on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, amid increasing political consultations and engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The details of the discussions between the two former political office holders were not immediately made public.
Ganduje, who served as Kano State governor from 2015 to 2023, later became national chairman of the APC. He is also involved in the ruling party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, first assuming office following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua before winning the 2011 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ganduje-Jonathan Meeting Comes Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Abuja meeting comes at a time of heightened political activity as parties and political stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Recent engagements involving Jonathan have also attracted attention to his continuing role in Nigeria’s political discussions.
Earlier in October, Jonathan received a delegation of APC leaders and candidates at his residence in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The delegation, led by former Bayelsa Deputy Governor Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (retd.), formally presented APC candidates contesting various positions in Bayelsa East ahead of the 2027 elections.
Among those presented was Israel Sunny-Goli, the APC candidate for the Bayelsa East Senatorial District, alongside candidates for the Brass/Nembe and Ogbia federal constituencies and several Bayelsa State House of Assembly seats.
Jonathan commended the candidates’ capacity, experience and performance and urged them to remain committed to serving their constituents if elected.
He also encouraged political stakeholders in Bayelsa to promote peace, unity and cooperation as political activities increase ahead of the elections.
Jonathan’s Political Role Draws Attention
Jonathan’s recent engagements have generated renewed interest because of his continued prominence in political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.
In July, a faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Turaki said it had submitted Jonathan’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The faction said it submitted the nomination manually after alleging that it had not received the access codes needed to upload the candidate’s name electronically.
The development has contributed to speculation about Jonathan’s possible political role ahead of the 2027 election. However, the Abuja meeting with Ganduje does not, by itself, establish any political agreement or alliance between the two men.
Ganduje’s Role in APC 2027 Campaign
Ganduje has remained active in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
Recent reports identify him as Director of Stakeholders’ Mobilisation in the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
His meeting with Jonathan therefore comes against a backdrop of increased consultations involving senior political figures from different parties and political backgrounds.
For now, neither Ganduje nor Jonathan has publicly disclosed the substance of their Abuja discussions.
The meeting nevertheless adds to the growing series of political engagements involving prominent Nigerian politicians as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
