Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the country’s problems did not begin with the current administration.
Anuku made the remarks while speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he discussed Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria’s political situation and some of the difficult experiences he has faced in his personal life.
The actor argued that Tinubu inherited longstanding problems and should be given time to address them.
“Nigeria has to be patient for the renewed hope of this man, and the country was not spoiled by him. There were people there before him. Why didn’t they go and attack those people? He has to fix it now,” Anuku said.
Hanks Anuku Says Nigerians Should Give Tinubu More Time
Anuku went further to suggest that Nigerians should allow Tinubu to complete his term, warning that the president’s successor could potentially be worse.
The actor said Nigerians may ultimately have to accept the current administration rather than risk replacing it with a government that could perform even worse.
“So the devil you know, is better,” he said.
His comments generated reactions online, with some social media users questioning his position and others criticising his defence of the president.
Some commenters also alleged that Anuku may have been paid to speak favourably about Tinubu.
The actor rejected the allegation, insisting that nobody paid him to make the comments.
“No one pays me. How many people can be better than him?” Anuku said.
Actor Speaks About Personal Loss
During the interview, Anuku also opened up about the death of the mother of his children and the emotional impact of the loss.
The actor described the period as extremely difficult and said he experienced depression following her death.
He acknowledged that he still misses her but said his faith has helped him cope with the pain and move forward.
Anuku also spoke about betrayal by people he once regarded as friends, saying some individuals he trusted eventually turned against him.
Hanks Anuku’s Previous Struggles
The actor’s latest disclosure comes months after a video showing him undergoing a deliverance session at a church went viral.
The session was led by Apostle Leo, and Anuku subsequently spoke about a difficult period in his life and described what he considered a spiritual turning point.
Earlier videos showing the actor appearing distressed in public had also generated concern among fans and prompted calls for people to support him.
His latest interview provides further insight into the personal challenges he has faced away from his career in Nollywood.
Hanks Anuku’s Nollywood Career
Anuku remains one of the recognisable faces of Nigerian cinema, particularly for the tough-guy and villain roles he played extensively during the 1990s and 2000s.
Over the years, he has featured in numerous Nollywood productions and built a reputation for portraying intimidating and complex characters.
While he has become more private in recent years, Anuku continues to attract public attention whenever he speaks about his personal experiences, career and views on national issues.
His comments on Tinubu have now generated a fresh debate online, with Nigerians divided over his call for patience with the president and his suggestion that a successor could be worse.
