The Cable reports that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has spoken out against Israel’s recent military actions in Lebanon, stating that they put existing diplomatic efforts at risk and violate the ceasefire deal that was struck between Iran and the US.
Despite the lack of transparency about the specifics of Iran’s 10-point peace framework, reports indicate that it served as the basis for Tuesday’s truce.
Even if they’re in agreement, they appear to be interpreting it differently. Iran maintains that the truce applies to more general regional disputes, like Lebanon, while Israel and the US maintain that it only applies to direct confrontations between their countries and Iran.
Tehran views Israel’s continuation of military activities in Lebanon as a violation of the spirit and provisions of the deal.
Mohammad Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, backed this position on Thursday, saying that Lebanon is an essential component of the interim two-week truce agreement.
His remarks suggest that Tehran was hoping for a broader de-escalation in the area, not merely a concentration on direct confrontations between the three nations.
Iran stands by Lebanon, Pezeshkian said in a sharply worded social media post, and he warned that continued assault could derail any hope of serious negotiations.
“The first ceasefire agreement has been flagrantly violated by Israel’s continued offensive into Lebanon. Deceit and a lack of dedication to possible agreements are dangerously indicated by this. If these measures are not stopped, negotiations will be useless. Keep your fingers on the trigger, please. He vowed that Iran would never forsake its Lebanese citizens.
Ghalibaf went on to criticise the US, saying it has repeatedly broken its commitments in different pacts.
He contended that, in light of what he called continuing transgressions, it would be foolish to pursue more conversations at this time.
The proposed peace framework includes acknowledging Iran’s uranium enrichment activities as a major component.
The United States would collaborate with Iran to remove uranium from underground, according to US President Donald Trump, who has put forward a different perspective.
Doubts regarding the ceasefire’s longevity and the efficacy of future diplomatic initiatives have been raised by this circumstance, which highlights the rising tensions and divergent expectations among the parties concerned.
