Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that recent deadly attacks in Maiduguri and Jos may be linked to clandestine foreign intelligence operations rather than religious divisions.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook account, Gumi condemned the wave of killings across parts of Nigeria and said the attacks appeared to follow a disturbing pattern.
“Innocent bloodshed again,” the cleric wrote, adding that “the pattern suggests a clandestine foreign intelligence operations.” He argued that the violence “has nothing to do with religion” and claimed that some Nigerians were being used as “foot soldiers” by outside interests.
Gumi referenced the March 16 bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State, where multiple coordinated explosions reportedly killed at least 23 people and injured more than 100 others.
According to him, all of the victims in the Maiduguri attacks were Muslims.
He also cited the attack that occurred on the night of March 29 in Gari Ya Waye community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, during Palm Sunday celebrations. Gunmen reportedly invaded the community, leaving several Christians dead and many others injured.
