According to a report by TeamTalk on June 10, 2026, Chelsea have successfully won the race to sign highly rated English teenager Harrison Bettoni, beating competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Italian side AC Milan.
The transfer is expected to be the latest move in Chelsea’s long-term strategy under BlueCo ownership, as the club continues to target some of the most promising young talents in world football ahead of Xabi Alonso’s first season as manager.
Bettoni, 18, had an impressive breakthrough season with League One club Wigan Athletic during the 2025/26 campaign. The midfielder made 27 appearances for the club, scoring four goals after rising through their academy system.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Bettoni has been praised for his physical strength, technical quality, and his ability to contribute effectively in both attacking and defensive phases, which attracted interest from several top European teams.
Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke confirmed that Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign the teenager, who will become a free agent when his contract with Wigan expires later this month. However, Chelsea will still be required to pay training compensation to Wigan for developing the player.
O’Rourke stated on social media: “Chelsea have won the race for Wigan youngster Harrison Bettoni. The attacking midfielder is joining as a free agent, with Wigan entitled to training compensation.”
Chelsea reportedly faced strong competition for his signature, with Manchester City and AC Milan also holding discussions over a potential move as they monitored his situation closely.
The signing continues Chelsea’s active recruitment approach. Before Xabi Alonso’s official appointment, the club had already secured deals for Emmanuel Emegha, Denner, Dastan Satpaev, and Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda.
