Temitope Ajayi, the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has responded to individuals drawing parallels between the kidnapping of relatives of Bayo Adelabu and the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Ajayi’s remarks were shared through his verified X account on Sunday, June 7, 2026, following public discussions sparked by the recent rescue of members of Adelabu’s family who had been abducted in Ibadan.
The debate emerged as some social media users compared the swift rescue operation involving the former minister’s relatives with the ongoing efforts to secure the release of pupils and teachers kidnapped in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Addressing the comparisons, Ajayi argued that the two incidents differ significantly in nature and should not be viewed through the same lens. According to him, the groups responsible for the crimes have distinct motives and operate under different circumstances.
He explained that those behind the abduction of the schoolchildren and their teachers are terrorist elements believed to be operating from remote forest locations, making the security response more complex.
In his statement, Ajayi emphasized that security agencies are committed to rescuing all victims and dismissed suggestions that law enforcement authorities were giving preferential treatment to one case over another.
He stated that the kidnappers involved in the two incidents have different objectives and methods, adding that the rescue strategies employed by security operatives must reflect the unique circumstances surrounding each case. He also expressed confidence that the abducted children and teachers would eventually be rescued.
His comments have since generated reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the differences between the two kidnapping cases and the broader challenge of insecurity in the country.
