Mixed reactions have continued to trail the emergence of Temitope Chigbue, popularly known as Temi Nkem, as the winner of the 11th season of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija).
Temi was crowned winner of the “Show Ya Sef” edition at the grand finale on Sunday, defeating Aikou, who finished as the first runner-up, in a closely contested final vote.
According to the official results, Temi secured 25.87 per cent of the votes, while Aikou polled 23.68 per cent.
The result gave Temi a narrow 2.19 percentage-point lead over Aikou, making the finale one of the closely fought finishes of the season.
Sheba finished as the second runner-up with 9.80 per cent of the votes, while the remaining finalists shared the other votes.
Temi Nkem Wins ₦160 Million Prize Package
Temi’s victory earned her a prize package valued at ₦160 million.
The package includes ₦90 million in cash, a brand-new SUV and other sponsored prizes.
Her victory also made her the fifth female winner in the history of BBNaija.
The season lasted 70 days and began with 24 housemates competing through weekly tasks, Head of House games, nominations and a series of twists and surprises.
The edition was also notable for recording two disqualifications and a voluntary exit, making it the first BBNaija season to record all three developments in one edition.
Fans Question Temi Nkem’s Victory
Following the announcement of Temi as the winner, social media platforms were flooded with contrasting reactions from BBNaija viewers.
While many fans congratulated Temi and celebrated her achievement, others questioned the outcome and argued that Aikou deserved to win the competition.
One user, @iamZephyr01, said Aikou would have made a better winner and argued that Temi did not deserve the crown ahead of him.
The user also criticised Aikou’s supporters over what was described as an ineffective voting strategy, saying they had “given Aikou the gambit and spoiled his game.”
Similarly, @brenda_odi23217 said Aikou was her preferred winner and argued that he deserved the prize more than Temi.
“Nigerians y’all better do better next year. Vote for the ones that truly deserve the money,” the user wrote.
Another user, @Fazemay05, criticised the result and questioned why contestants described as “fake/razz people” continued to win the reality show.
Temi’s UK Residency Sparks Debate
Some of the criticism surrounding Temi’s victory focused on her residency in the United Kingdom.
One user, @ezekieledoso, questioned the decision to allow someone living in the UK to win a prize package in Nigeria.
The user wrote: “So @BBNaija you carried someone from the UK to come and carry N160M worth of prizes in Naija, so how is this show supposed to support the local citizens?”
The comment reflected a broader debate among some viewers about whether BBNaija should prioritise contestants who are resident in Nigeria.
However, the comment did not establish that Temi was ineligible to participate in the competition or that her victory violated any BBNaija rule.
Another user, @slaychichi7, criticised Temi’s return to Nigeria, saying she came back “to take the money and go back.”
Other Fans Celebrate BBNaija Winner
Despite the criticism, Temi also received strong support from viewers who celebrated her victory.
@Samue606 posted “Winner” alongside a picture of Temi holding the ₦90 million winner’s cheque, while @lovezone234 congratulated the new BBNaija winner.
“Chakam. Congratulations Temi Nkem,” @lovezone234 wrote.
Other supporters also shared congratulatory messages following the announcement.
Some viewers argued that BBNaija is primarily an entertainment programme and that the winner should be determined through the established voting process rather than considerations about charitable contribution or nationality.
Voting Process Also Comes Under Scrutiny
The voting process itself also attracted criticism following the close result.
One viewer, @Jubeeton, called for improvements to the voting system to prevent contestants or their supporters from allegedly organising groups to influence the outcome.
“I don’t know how… But you guys should improve in that voting aspect, so that someone inside cannot pay people to organise groups to vote for them,” the user wrote.
However, the allegation was presented as a social media opinion, and no evidence was provided to establish that any contestant or supporter manipulated the voting process.
Another user, @mrseun, accused Temi of having “stolen” the win, but the allegation was likewise expressed as an opinion without evidence supporting it.
Temi’s 70-Day BBNaija Journey
Temi’s victory came after a 70-day journey filled with drama, entertainment, controversy, romance and unexpected moments.
From the custard moment and the BB Bucks controversy to her kiss with Tram, the fake eviction and the awards that highlighted her unpredictable personality, Temi remained one of the season’s prominent housemates.
Her journey ultimately ended with the prize every contestant entered the Big Brother house hoping to win — the crown.
With 25.87 per cent of the final vote, Temi narrowly defeated Aikou, who finished with 23.68 per cent.
The 2.19 percentage-point difference ensured a dramatic finale and fuelled debate among viewers over who deserved to emerge as the Season 11 winner.
Temi Nkem now leaves the Big Brother house with the ₦160 million prize package, including ₦90 million in cash, a brand-new SUV and other sponsored prizes.
Her victory also places her among the female winners who have claimed the BBNaija crown since the reality show began.
