Atiku Adopted Saraki, Made Him SSA; When Atiku Contested, Did Saraki Not Contest Against His Patron?—George

In a recent interview with The Sun on Monday, April 13, 2026, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed disappointment over the political actions of former Senate President Bukola Saraki within the party.

‎He recalled Saraki’s early entry into the PDP, saying he was introduced to former President Olusegun Obasanjo by his father when he joined the party, according to him, Saraki was warmly received by party leaders at the time and quickly rose within the party structure.

‎Chief George stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar played a major role in Saraki’s political rise within the PDP and noted that Atiku supported Saraki and brought him into a key advisory position during his time in government.

‎He explained that Saraki later benefited from strong backing within the party, especially from senior figures who helped him build his political influence at the national level and suggested that Saraki’s rise was made possible through the support and mentorship of key party leaders.

‎However, Chief George questioned Saraki’s later political decisions during the party’s presidential primaries, he said it was surprising that Saraki went on to contest against Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as one of Saraki’s major political supporters and patrons within the PDP.

‎He argued that such a move created tension and disappointment among some party members who expected loyalty from individuals who had benefited from internal support systems and added that political competition within the party should not erase respect for those who helped in building political careers.

‎”As for Saraki, I was there the day his father brought him to meet Baba Obasanjo to join the party and they welcomed him. Atiku adopted him, made hime him SSA and said, “Come and be Senior Special Adviser to me.” When Atiku subsequently contested for the presidential candidacy, did Saraki not join to contest against his own patron?” he said.
