According to reports from Punch Newspapers on Sunday, April 26, 2026, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has officially laid the foundation stone for a new secondary school in the Kaura Goge area of Nasarawa Local Government Area. The ₦1.3 billion project is a strategic intervention aimed at replacing the dilapidated Maikwatashi School, which has faced significant structural decay and illegal land encroachment over the years.
The Governor explained that the decision to build the new facility was a direct response to pleas from the local community. For years, students in Kaura Goge have been forced to trek long distances to Sabon Gari and other neighboring areas to access education. “There are huge numbers of students in this area who had to go to Sabon Gari for schooling,” Yusuf stated during the ceremony. “That is why we want to build a school here.”
Kano State Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, provided further details on the project, noting that the modern facility will feature 32 classrooms, 36 toilets, and four libraries, among other essential structures. He described the project as a fulfillment of the administration’s campaign promises to revitalize the state’s education sector.
Additionally, the Governor announced that the site of the former Maikwatashi School has been officially transferred to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies. While urging residents to cooperate with the construction teams, Yusuf issued a stern warning to the contractors to ensure the project meets strict quality specifications and is delivered within the stipulated timeframe.
