Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
According to a report published by Daily Post Nigeria on May 21, 2026, Fubara announced his decision in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday.
The governor explained that his withdrawal followed what he described as “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family members, friends, political associates, and supporters.
Although the statement did not provide detailed reasons for his decision, political observers believe the development may be connected to ongoing political alignments and internal party consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Daily Post reported that the withdrawal comes amid growing political activities within the APC and other political parties as preparations intensify for the next election cycle.
Fubara urged his supporters to remain calm and continue supporting democratic processes in Rivers State despite his withdrawal from the race.
Political analysts say the development could reshape the political landscape of Rivers State ahead of the APC governorship primary election.
