Shehu Sani has responded strongly after Donald Trump criticised Pope Leo XIV over his views on global conflicts.
In a post via X, Sani said the Pope’s stance on war reflects the thinking of many people around the world who believe violence only leads to suffering, especially for innocent civilians. According to him, attacking such views is like going against basic human values.
His reaction came after Trump publicly expressed dissatisfaction with Pope Leo XIV, describing him as too liberal and weak on key issues like crime and foreign policy. Trump also suggested that the Pope should avoid aligning with certain political ideas.
The disagreement appears to have been triggered by the Pope’s remarks about global tensions, where he warned against attitudes that promote unchecked power and conflict. Trump interpreted this as a position that could allow countries like Iran to develop nuclear weapons, something he strongly opposes.
Sani, however, focused on the human cost of war, stressing that conflicts often harm women and children the most. He argued that no reasonable person supports unnecessary wars, especially when innocent lives are at risk.
