According to a report by Leadership, on Friday May 15, 2026, thirty-year-old Zaria politician and All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, Mahmud Sadis Buba, has rejected the announcement backing the sitting House of Representatives member, Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, as the party’s consensus candidate for the next election.
The disagreement followed a meeting of APC stakeholders in Sabon Gari Local Government Area, at the meeting, party leaders reportedly endorsed Sadiq Ango Abdullahi as the preferred candidate for the constituency, the announcement was later made public by the local government chairman and ALGON leader in Kaduna State, Jamilu Abubakar Albani.
However, Mahmud Sadis Buba’s camp has strongly disputed the process, in a reaction shared through his personal assistant, Alhassan Sani, Buba insisted that what happened was not a true consensus arrangement, he argued that he and other aspirants were not part of any agreement to step down.
According to him, a real consensus requires all contestants to agree on one candidate after proper consultation, he said this condition was not met in the decision that produced Sadiq Ango Abdullahi as the endorsed candidate.
Buba maintained that the announcement should be seen as a political endorsement by some stakeholders, not a binding consensus of all aspirants in the race, he said the process did not reflect the collective will of party contenders in the constituency.
Despite the controversy, Buba confirmed that he has already obtained his nomination forms and is fully prepared for the APC direct primary election scheduled for Friday, he expressed confidence in his support base within the constituency.
He further stated that his campaign team remains committed to the party’s democratic process and will participate actively in the primaries, he added that the people of Sabon Gari will have the final say through their votes.
