As per a statement released by Vanguard on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Jude Imagwe, the Special Adviser to ex-Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, has rejected assertions suggesting that the former leader is gearing up to run in the 2027 presidential election or has acquired any nomination forms.
He pointed out that there is no credible proof that the former president has secured forms or has been granted any waiver by any political organization.
Imagwe provided this clarification during a televised discussion while addressing rumors concerning Jonathan’s political plans for the upcoming election cycle.
He emphasized that claims indicating that nomination forms had been obtained were just based on unverified hearsay and should not be viewed as formal confirmation of participation in the election.
“Some individuals mentioned that a waiver was granted to him. If that has happened within the system, I personally am not aware of such a waiver being given. They are trying to dramatize the situation,” Imagwe remarked.
He went on to clarify that any choice about whether Jonathan would enter the race is completely personal and would only be announced by the former president himself.
The adviser further stated that rumors spreading in political discussions should not be taken as a sign of ambition or support from party leaders.
In his view, those who publicly assert claims about the former president’s potential candidacy do not effectively represent his views or official communication methods.
These remarks arise amidst invigorated political discussions among various parties as they prepare for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
