According to a report by Al Jazeera on June 1, 2026, Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reaffirmed Tehran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz and warned against what he described as continued pressure on Iran and rising instability in Lebanon.
In a post on X, Rezaei stressed that Iran would not accept any attempts to restrict maritime activities in the strategic waterway. “We will not allow the continuation of the maritime blockade, and the escalation of tensions in Lebanon will not be tolerated either. The patience of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran has its limits,” he wrote.
His remarks came amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over security in key maritime routes used for global energy shipments. The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, remains one of the world’s most important waterways, carrying a significant portion of international oil and gas exports.
Rezaei’s comments also linked developments in the Gulf to the situation in Lebanon, where tensions have continued to rise. His warning suggested that Tehran is closely monitoring events in both areas and may respond if it believes its interests or regional allies are threatened.
The statement followed a warning issued by Iran on Saturday regarding navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities said that foreign commercial and military vessels operating in the area would be targeted if they failed to comply with regulations governing passage through the waterway.
The warning raised concerns among international observers and shipping operators, given the strait’s strategic importance to global trade and energy markets. Any disruption to maritime traffic in the area could have far-reaching economic consequences.
