Honourable Nnenna Ukeje, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has commented on the recent political realignments within Nigeria’s opposition, specifically referencing the exit of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi from the ADC political discussions.
Speaking during an interview aired on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Ukeje addressed concerns about internal disagreements, litigation, and leadership disputes affecting opposition unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
She argued that political decisions are often influenced by multiple factors, including legal uncertainty and strategic ambition. According to her, it is simplistic to assume that such movements are driven by a single motive.
During the interview, she specifically questioned the narrative surrounding Obi’s departure, asking, “Don’t you believe that he left the ADC because of the litigation? Do you think he left because he wants to be president?”
Ukeje maintained that prolonged court cases and internal party disputes can push politicians to seek alternative platforms that offer stability and clearer electoral pathways. She added that opposition parties must resolve internal conflicts if they hope to present a united front against the ruling party.
She further expressed optimism that ongoing political conversations would eventually lead to greater cohesion among opposition stakeholders nationwide going forward in Nigeria.
