According to a video on CBN News, on Saturday June 6, 2026, CBN News Middle East bureau chief Chris Mitchell marked the anniversary of the Six-Day War by highlighting one of its most decisive military engagements, describing the Battle of Ammunition Hill as the turning point that gave Israel control of the Old City of Jerusalem for the first time in more than two thousand years.
Mitchell spoke about the anniversary during the closing segment of his live interview on CBN News Watch, where anchor Efron Grant asked him to preview that day’s edition of Jerusalem Dateline, CBN News’s flagship Middle East programme, which was dedicating its broadcast to the historic 1967 conflict.
In his words, Chris Mitchell said, “Ammunition Hill was a scene of a pivotal battle during that war. A hard-fought battle between Israelis and Jordanian soldiers.
“And Israel’s victory in that battle opened the way for the old city, to take over the old city of Jerusalem. First time Israel has been in charge of the old city for more than 2,000 years,” he said.
Mitchell noted that the Six-Day War, fought in June 1967, had made what he described as a pivotal difference not only in the history of Israel but in the broader history of the entire region.
In just six days, Israel defeated the combined forces of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, dramatically expanding its territory and reunifying the city of Jerusalem under Israeli administration.
The Battle of Ammunition Hill, fought on June 6, 1967, between Israeli paratroopers and Jordanian soldiers, was one of the costliest engagements of the entire war for Israel.
Its outcome proved decisive in securing access to the Old City.
Mitchell described the moment as both historic and prophetic, reflecting the deep religious and national significance that Jerusalem holds for the Jewish people and for those who view the events through a biblical lens.
