Mrs. Grace Oluwatimilehin, a business owner in Kubwa, Abuja, has said she was surprised by the recent increase in the price of cooking gas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as reported by NIGERIAN TRIBUNE on Sunday June 7 2026.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the price of cooking gas has risen from about ₦1,200 per kilogram to around ₦2,000 per kilogram in recent months, making it difficult for households and small businesses to cope.
However, in an interview, Grace explained that she last bought gas at about ₦1,600 per kilogram, but returned later to find that the price had increased again. She said the continuous rise has forced her to change her cooking method, as she now uses electric hot plates and sometimes relies on charcoal and firewood.
According to her,
“I filled my cylinder at N1,600 per kg the last time, but when I went back yesterday, the price had risen to N2,000 per kg. I now use electric hot plates for cooking and sometimes rely on charcoal and firewood instead of gas.”
