Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to recent comments made by former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, concerning electricity generation in Nigeria.
Wike’s reaction was contained in a video shared on the official X handle of TheCable on Monday, June 1, 2026. The remarks came after Peter Obi stated that if elected president, he would increase Nigeria’s electricity generation capacity to 10,000 megawatts.
Responding to the statement, Wike questioned Obi’s ability to handle the challenges associated with governing a complex country like Nigeria. The former Rivers State governor argued that leadership requires resilience, persistence, and the capacity to confront difficult situations directly.
In the video circulating online, Wike claimed that Peter Obi prefers situations where conditions are already favourable rather than engaging in difficult political struggles. According to him, Nigeria’s leadership demands individuals who are prepared to face serious national challenges and make difficult decisions when necessary.
“Peter Obi likes where the food is ready. He does not like struggling. In this country, there are challenges. You must have the capacity to face those challenges,” Wike said during the interview.
The comments have since generated reactions on social media, with supporters of both political figures debating the remarks and Obi’s proposed plans for the power sector.
Peter Obi has repeatedly emphasized the importance of improving electricity supply in Nigeria, arguing that stable power generation is critical to economic growth, industrial development, and job creation. His recent promise to raise generation capacity to 10,000 megawatts has become part of ongoing political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike’s latest criticism adds to the growing political exchanges between leading opposition figures and members of the current administration.
