According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday, June 03, 2026, the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Aisanu Nura, in connection with the alleged killing of a 17-year-old boy, Abdullahi Muhammad, in Kari Village, Darazo Local Government Area.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, who said an investigation has commenced into the incident.
According to the statement, the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters received a report on May 24, 2026, at about 4:15 p.m. that Abdullahi Muhammad, a resident of Kari Village, had drowned in the Kari River under circumstances linked to another teenager from the same community.
Preliminary findings by investigators indicated that the suspect allegedly persuaded the victim to accompany him to the river before drowning him. Police operatives attached to the Darazo Division responded to the report, visited the scene, apprehended the suspect and opened an investigation into the matter.
Authorities disclosed that the victim’s body had not been recovered as of Wednesday, with search operations continuing in the area.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed detectives handling the matter to carry out a thorough and professional investigation. He stated that efforts would continue to determine all relevant facts and ensure that anyone found responsible is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police command also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor the activities of teenagers and urged residents to promptly report suspicious behaviour or security concerns to the nearest police station for appropriate action.
