Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed confidence in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that key opposition figures would not associate with the party if it lacked the strength to challenge the ruling APC.
Speaking during an interview on TRUST TV, on May 19, 2026, Amaechi said neither he nor former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would invest their time and resources in ADC if they did not believe the party had a realistic chance of winning future elections.
He further alleged that the Federal Government’s actions against some ADC members indicate growing concern over the party’s rising influence and political relevance.
According to Amaechi, the attention being directed at ADC by the ruling party suggests that the opposition party is being viewed as a credible political threat ahead of future elections.
He said,
“If we think ADC is not strong enough to win, then I won’t even be running. I’m sure the vice president won’t be running. He wouldn’t want to waste his money.”
