If You Say That PBAT Caused Problem For Us Because Of 2 Policies, Then Give Us Alternatives-Dahiru

Speaking during an interview on Nigerian Info FM, Dahiru addressed ongoing debates surrounding key government policies such as fuel subsidy removal and the unification of the foreign exchange market. He acknowledged that these reforms have sparked widespread concern but insisted that criticism alone is insufficient in a democratic system.

According to him, opposition figures who blame the administration for economic hardship must also outline what different measures they would have implemented. He argued that without concrete alternatives, opposition parties cannot convincingly present themselves as viable options for leadership.

Dahiru criticised what he described as “political recycling,” where politicians frequently switch parties without introducing new ideas or policy direction. He noted that many leading figures across party lines have previously worked within similar political structures, making ideological distinctions less clear to the public.

He emphasised that the responsibility of the opposition is to articulate a distinct governance agenda that citizens can assess against that of the ruling government. This, he said, would enable voters to make informed decisions based on policy comparisons rather than personalities.

The analyst added that a strong opposition should be defined by innovation, accountability, and constructive engagement, rather than repeated attacks without solutions. He stressed that democratic progress depends on issue-based politics where parties compete through ideas.

Dahiru concluded by calling on political actors to prioritise national interest, maintain consistency in public debate, and present detailed policy proposals capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges across multiple sectors.
