According to a report by Punch on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing of two suspected kidnappers during an operation that led to the rescue of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her two children.
Report revealed that the rescue mission was carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped on June 3 while on a school run in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, disclosed in a statement that the successful operation was made possible through intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated tactical efforts by the police team.
According to him, the operatives engaged the kidnappers in a confrontation during which two suspects were shot dead, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.
“The victims were rescued unharmed and are currently in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and necessary support,” the statement said.
The Inspector-General of Police commended the FID-IRT operatives for what he described as their bravery, professionalism, and determination in ensuring the safe rescue of the hostages.
The police also revealed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping gang who reportedly escaped during the operation, adding that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds.
