Army Arrests 14 Suspected Security Impostors, Recovers Ammunition in Abuja
Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested 14 suspected impostors allegedly masquerading as operatives of the Nigeria Forest Guard and carrying out unauthorized arrest operations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects were apprehended at about 5:20 p.m. on June 5 during a routine patrol by troops of the 7 Guards Battalion in the Mpape area of Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The sources said the troops became suspicious after encountering the group allegedly conducting arrests while claiming to be personnel of the Nigeria Forest Guard.
Acting on the suspicious circumstances, the troops intervened and carried out preliminary questioning and searches on the individuals.
During the operation, security personnel recovered one round of 9mm ammunition and other weapons from the suspects.
Military sources said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the ammunition and weapons, as well as to verify the group’s claimed affiliation with the Nigeria Forest Guard.
The suspects have since been taken into military custody for further interrogation and possible prosecution.
Security agencies have urged residents to remain vigilant and verify the identity of individuals claiming to represent security organizations before complying with directives or submitting to arrest.
The military reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the Federal Capital Territory and cracking down on criminal elements involved in impersonation, unlawful security activities, and other acts capable of undermining public safety.
