Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman has announced his withdrawal from the race for the governorship of Kwara State ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
The announcement was contained in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday.
In the statement, he reflected on his political engagements across the state, noting that his interactions with citizens over the years revealed a shared aspiration for a safer, stronger, more united, and more prosperous Kwara State.
He explained that his initial decision to contest for the governorship was driven by a desire to contribute to the development of the state rather than personal ambition, adding that he remained grateful for the support, encouragement, and goodwill he received across the three senatorial districts.
Sulaiman said his decision to withdraw followed extensive consultations and recent developments, describing it as a difficult but responsible step guided by wisdom and commitment to the greater good.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and expressed continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the party at all levels.
He further stated that he would remain active within the party as a stakeholder, committed to efforts aimed at strengthening unity, peace, and development in Kwara State and Nigeria.
He thanked his supporters and well-wishers for their encouragement, noting that their support would remain deeply appreciated.
