Ember months: Amotekun deploys 1,200 operatives, launches new security model

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, has launched a new security initiative tagged ‘Operation Laafia DanDan’ as part of moves to enhance security during the ember months.

The corps also disclosed the deployment of 1,200 personnel across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Commander of the corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, revealed this while parading 15 suspected criminals at the corps headquarters in Akure, the state capital.

According to Adeleye, the new security model will involve intelligence-led surveillance across all major roads and metropolitan areas as well as patrols by Amotekun Rangers in the state’s forest reserves.

Adeleye emphasised that the 15 suspects included four individuals held for anti-grazing offenses, two for breaching law and order, and nine for kidnap-related cases.

The Amotekun commander noted that the arrests demonstrate that the state is not a place where criminality can thrive.

“We were able to apprehend the three major kidnappers that actually kidnapped the poultry man and killed the lady. They are with us today.

“The victim had identified them, and the suspects had also confessed to the crime. This goes a long way in showing that Ondo State is not a place where criminalities could thrive,” he said.
