NDC Moves to Unite Peter Obi, Kwankwaso and Other Candidates Ahead of 2027 Elections

The NDC plans to coordinate the campaigns of Peter Obi and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to National Leader Seriake Dickson.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to coordinate the campaigns of all its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections through a National Campaign Council, as the party prepares to unveil the body on October 26, 2026.

The party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this after meetings with its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to Dickson, the proposed campaign structure will bring together candidates contesting the presidency, National Assembly seats, governorships and state houses of assembly elections under a unified platform.

In a statement shared on X following his return from a working trip overseas, the former Bayelsa State governor said Obi visited him, while Lawal also participated in discussions on the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Dickson said the meetings focused on the party’s readiness for the elections and efforts to strengthen cooperation among its leadership and candidates.

“Following my return from a working trip overseas, I received our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, CON, who paid me a visit.

“I also received the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency Engr. Babachir Lawal, a senior member and leader of our great party, the NDC. Together, we held very fruitful discussions on the state of the party, particularly our readiness for the 2027 general elections,” he said.

The NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, later joined the meeting alongside members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Dickson subsequently held another meeting with the party’s national leadership, with Lawal in attendance, to discuss preparations for the inauguration of the National Campaign Council.

He said the chairman and members of the NWC briefed the leadership on arrangements for the event, adding that the discussions reflected a shared commitment to the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.

“The Chairman and the NWC briefed us on preparations for the official unveiling and inauguration of our National Campaign Council, scheduled for Monday,” Dickson stated.

“The discussions were very fruitful, and I am happy that all our party leaders and candidates are on the same page.”

NDC Campaign Council to Cover All Candidates

Dickson explained that the National Campaign Council would coordinate more than Obi’s presidential campaign, serving as a central platform for all NDC candidates contesting the 2027 elections.

He said the arrangement would cover candidates for the National Assembly, governorships and state houses of assembly, ensuring that the party’s campaign activities were coordinated across different levels of government.

“Our unique campaign council will coordinate the campaigns of all our party’s candidates, from the presidential candidate to the National Assembly, governorships and state houses of assembly. It will be known as the NDC National Campaign Council,” he said.

The NDC leader added that the party intended to make the campaign a collective responsibility by involving candidates and party leaders at every level.

According to him, the strategy would prevent the presidential candidate from carrying the campaign burden alone and encourage greater participation across the party’s political structure.

“This will be a campaign for the entire NDC, from top to bottom, with all candidates and party leaders actively involved and taking ownership of the process,” Dickson said.

He also disclosed that further discussions and consultations would continue ahead of the planned inauguration, expressing confidence that the party would present a united front to Nigerians.

Dickson thanked Nigerians for their confidence and support, assuring party supporters that its leadership would work together to communicate its message nationwide.

“I thank all Nigerians for their confidence and support. I assure them that our leaders are united and on the same page, and we will take the NDC message to every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” he said.

He added, “From next week, we will paint the whole country blue.”

NDC Reschedules Campaign Council Inauguration

The announcement comes after the NDC changed the date for the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council.

The event was initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, but was moved to Monday, October 26, following a change in the schedule of the party’s presidential candidate.

In a statement issued on October 19, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the postponement was necessary because of Obi’s overseas engagement.

“The NDC Leadership has announced a new date for the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC) earlier slated for Tuesday, 20th October, 2026. The event will now be held on Monday, 26th October, 2026,” the statement read.

The party apologised for any inconvenience caused by the change and urged its members and supporters to remain focused on securing victory for Obi and other NDC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Obi is seeking the presidency on the NDC platform, with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.

The planned inauguration is expected to mark a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, particularly its effort to coordinate campaigns across its national and state-level candidates.
