Buba Galadima Claims Fayemi, Six Others Working To Defeat Tinubu In 2027

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has claimed that former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, is coordinating a group of opposition figures working to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Naija News reports that Galadima made the disclosure on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he also expressed confidence in the chances of the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 election.

According to Galadima, he is part of a seven-man opposition group allegedly coordinated by Fayemi and working towards defeating President Tinubu at the polls.

He said: “I also want to say publicly that I am one of the group of opposition candidates, seven of us, under the coordination of Governor Fayemi Kayode, working on that, and we are making progress.”

When asked what the group was working towards, Galadima responded: “To defeat Tinubu.”

Galadima also said he believes the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket can win the 2027 presidential election if the process is free, fair and credible. Channels Television reported that Galadima described Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as being on the same page while the NDC works to harmonise areas of difference between them.

Lere Olayinka Reacts

Reacting to the claim, Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, shared a clip of Galadima’s interview on his handle.

Olayinka said he would wait for Fayemi to respond to the allegation before accepting Galadima’s claim.

He wrote: “I will choose not to believe this except Dr Kayode Fayemi fails to refute it today.”

As of the time of this report, the claim that Fayemi is coordinating the alleged seven-man opposition group has not been independently established beyond Galadima’s statement.

Isaac Fayose Alleges Five APC Governors Support NDC

Meanwhile, businessman and political commentator Isaac Fayose has separately alleged that five governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are secretly supporting the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Fayose claimed that the unnamed governors would not publicly campaign for the opposition party because they remain members of the APC but had allegedly pledged financial support for the NDC’s electoral activities.

According to reports of Fayose’s claim, the alleged support is linked to efforts to prevent Nyesom Wike from delivering the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State to the APC in the 2027 election.

Fayose also alleged that the governors had offered financial support to polling agents in Rivers State and the FCT. However, the identities of the five governors and the allegations concerning the alleged funding have not been independently verified.

The latest claims come as political parties and opposition figures continue to position themselves ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with alliances and possible realignments expected to remain a major feature of the political landscape.
