According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Channels Television on Sunday, May 17, 2026, National Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, dismissed claims challenging his leadership of the party, insisting that the PRP remains united and properly structured under his administration.
Speaking during an interview on a political programme, Baba-Ahmed said the party had no serious internal crisis despite reports suggesting that some members were contesting the legitimacy of the current leadership. He maintained that his emergence as national chairman followed a valid and democratic process conducted in line with the party’s constitution.
While reacting to the activities of individuals laying claim to the leadership of the party, Baba-Ahmed mocked one of the claimants and questioned the credibility of such assertions.
“Yesterday, I saw a gentleman with six people who said he has been the chairman of PRP for the last 17 years. I think he needs to see a doctor,” he said.
The PRP chairman further stated that there is only one recognized leadership within the party and insisted that no court process or legitimate faction currently threatens the structure of the party.
He added that the PRP remains focused on rebuilding its political strength ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
