According to a report that was published by The Sun on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Buba Galadima, a close ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, has confirmed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its presidential ticket for the year 2027 to the southern region of Nigeria. Galadima stated that the decision is part of the party’s internal arrangements in preparation for the next general election.
According to Galadima, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also concluded plans to submit its membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He stated that this step will mark an important milestone for the party as it positions itself for political activities in 2027. Galadima explained that the party had already finished key discussions on zoning and was now preparing for formal electoral processes.
Galadima emphasised that the presidential ticket has been clearly given to the South. He also stated that the leadership of the party is in accord with the decision, and there is no debate over the zoning structure.
At the same time that he confirmed that primaries will be used to pick the party’s presidential candidate, he made it clear that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not impose any candidate on its members. Instead, he stated that the party will enable a democratic process in which candidates will be entitled to freely compete.
“It is all set to go after we have completed that task. We have designated the southern region as the zone for the party’s presidential candidature. No votes were left out. We have designated it as the southern zone,” he stated.
